Hardenhuish Headlines

Dear Parents and Carers

Our young people continue to settle well into term and it has been good to see them so focussed in lessons and working so hard to establish good learning habits.

Thank you for your continued support with uniform as we establish our expectations a reminder that a warm, waterproof coat is required (especially when we get a mid-morning downpour like yesterday or a frost like this morning and many young people were coat-less!).

Please can I ask you to remind your young person/people to have and show their bus passes and smart cards to the right people at the right time to enable their travel and access to food.

I am delighted to share that our Careers Education, Advice and Guidance now meets 100% of the Gatsby Benchmarks which measure our provision against both regional and national data. A massive thank you to Mrs Brenton for all of her leadership of Careers and Mrs Brown for her support of the big events such as our Careers Fair (26 – 28 November) and Work Experience.

The Year 13 Awards Evening last night was a lovely celebration of all of their achievements, and it was great to be able to wish them happiness and good luck for their new adventures.

Have a good weekend and enjoy the sunshine that we are promised.

Focus on …Behaviour

At Hardenhuish School we know that good behaviour is essential if the school is to look after the wellbeing of the school community and to improve the attainment of all pupils. We know that learning happens best if teachers are able to teach in a calm atmosphere, free from disruption.

Under Article 29 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, children have the right to a safe and orderly learning environment to assist them in achieving their full, academic potential. As a school we have developed the Hardenhuish School Habits, in which good behaviour is a key part.

We always appreciate your help and support with promoting positive behaviour in school.

Cashless Catering

There is currently an issue with the software for the school’s cashless catering system which is affecting the balances showing on some students’ cards. The balance showing on your Arbor account is correct, but the one showing when scanning students’ cards is incorrect. We are working with our software providers to rectify this issue as soon as possible.

Bike Marking

The police have reported that there has been an increase in bike thefts in the Chippenham area recently. Because of this they will be in school during lunchtime on Thursday 19 September to do bike marking free of charge. A code is put on the bike and added to a database which makes them easier to trace should they be stolen and dumped. This will take place at the bike racks near the sports hall.

Vocational Students Visit

The Year 11 Vocational students enjoyed a visit to Brewers Fayre at Cepen Park this week where they met Harry, who is completing a Management Apprenticeship.  They asked him questions to find out about the range of roles available there and the skills and qualities the Whitbread Group look for in employees.  They were also treated to some refreshments and found out about the rewards and challenges within the sector.  Thank you, Harry, for your time hosting us and to the team for their wider hospitality, this was a wonderful employability opportunity for the students.
