Hardenhuish Headlines

Dear Parents and Carers

The weather has been very kind to us this week for Open Week and it has been a joy to show off our beautiful site to over 200 families who have visited us. The young people have been a wonderful advert for our school and prospective young people and their parents have been very impressed by our wonderful site and facilities. A big thank you to all of the Sixth Formers who have been so generous with their time providing tours in their free periods.

Our Hardenhuish50 celebrations last weekend enabled us to welcome over 300 ex-pupils and staff to tour the site and explore so many items from our archive that Mr Southwood had organized to enable them to step back into their past. It was lovely to hear their stories and also show off the talents of our young people with the many performances around the site and the commitment of our staff who had come in to welcome our visitors to each of the buildings. Thank you to everyone involved in making this such a special event. Please see below a write up of our celebrations.

If you would like to donate to our Hardenhuish50 fundraising campaign (via the QR code below) to buy a new school flag, a stag weather vane and to fund a number of projects around the site to leave a legacy for our future pupils, we would be very grateful. There will also be a number of branded items going into the Arbor shop over the next week or so including Hardenhuish tea towels printed to commemorate the occasion!

I know that Year 7 are looking forward to their Go Ape team building trip next week and look forward to hearing all about it when they get back.

Have a good weekend.

Focus on ..Tutor Check In

Hardenhuish School takes great pride in our motto, “Supported to Succeed,” and is well known for our dedication to this principle. With our young people at the heart of everything we do and every decision we make, our tutor structure forms the foundation of the support each pupil and student receives. Every morning, our tutors welcome their tutees into the classroom, aiming to set them up for a successful day of learning, with a strong emphasis on building relationships and trust. As the most regular and consistent point of contact, tutors play a vital role in helping our students navigate their secondary school education and overcome any challenges that may arise.

We recognise that effective communication with parents is crucial to ensuring that tutors have all the information they need to provide comprehensive support to pupils and students. With this in mind, we hope you will have seen on the school calendar that our Tutor Check-in Evening will take place on Thursday 9th October 2025, for all pupils and students, and their parents. This will be conducted through an online meeting or phone call.  This short meeting will provide an opportunity to speak with your young person’s tutor to review the first part of the academic year, share any important information about your child, ask any questions you may have, and discuss upcoming opportunities for the rest of the year. Please keep an eye out for a letter coming soon with instructions on how to schedule your one-to-one appointment. Of course, should you need to talk to someone in the meantime, or at any time, about you young person please contact the school and we will get in touch as soon as we can.

Doorway Workshops

This week year 11 Health and Social Care students enjoyed participating in workshops facilitated by Doorway, who are a local charity, who work with people who are homeless in our local area.  Doorway were one of the charities our school supported year.  The students learnt about some of the issues people who are homeless experience, and the support Doorway offers.  This was so helpful for their Creative and Therapeutic Activities coursework.  Thank you so much Kev and Sarah for your time and expertise!
