Dear Parents and Carers
It has been a busy week with both Year 13 and 11 Proms, a wonderful music concert on Wednesday evening and Sports Day today.
The Year 11 and 13 Proms were wonderful celebrations for our young people of their time here at Hardenhuish and it was lovely to have the opportunity to celebrate with them and share in the fun in a non-school environment. A big thank you to the Year 11 and 13 Teams for organising these wonderful events and for everything they have done to support the young people.
The Summer Concert was joyful and a fitting goodbye to Gary Pike our Clarinet and Saxophone peripatetic teacher who is retiring after 35 years working with our young people here at Hardenhuish. It was lovely to see so many of our Alumni come back to perform in Gary Pike’s Greatest Hits and to witness the gratitude that so many young people have for his care and teaching over the years.
I am sure that Sports Day will be great this afternoon and am looking forward to our only time of the year when we have all of the school in the same place at the same time!
Our Chinese visitors visited Oxford yesterday and we say goodbye to them today as they travel back to China on Saturday. We wish them a safe journey home and hope they are taking with them many happy memories from their time with us.
I am looking forward to Languages Week next week and the opportunities this will provide for our young people. We also have Open Evening on Thursday when we welcome Year 5 to come and visit to help them with their decision regarding their future school.

Hardenhuish is turning 50!
Our Hardenhuish50 planning is going well and as I shared last week, we will be celebrating in school on Friday 19th September 2025 and hosting an Open Morning Event on Saturday 20th September 2025. We will be sharing more details over the next few weeks but can reveal that Friday 19th September will be a green and gold non-uniform day for years 7-11 !
FOCUS ON…
Languages Week – w/b 30th June
It’s time for languages week, so once again we’re asking you to dive into some multilingual challenges, games and events that will test your logic, awaken your curiosity and remind us all of this wonderfully diverse world we live in.
Languages are at the root of everything we do, they make us feel things, and they help us identify with others, be it at a national or simply local level. There are words that perfectly capture a feeling, words that can cause emotional and even chemical responses in our bodies, and all of the different languages we learn to speak give us different perspectives on what it is to be human.
So what’s on offer? Instead of your usual French and Spanish lessons you will have the opportunity to discover other languages, learn more about the culture and be creative. There will be a Super Languages Club on Wednesday lunch time and this year languages have taken over Board Game club on Thursday. So, if you fancy playing a board game in French, Spanish or German then A9 is the place to be.
So, whether you’re already multilingual, just love to learn about other languages or figure you’d like to take part in all or some of the events, we’d love to see you get involved
River Run – Wed. 2nd July
Over 50 pupils and staff will be taking part in the River Run next Wednesday evening. Please come along to support if you can. There will be an ice cream van and a percentage of their sales will also be added to our fundraising for the gym changing rooms. The sponsorship option will remain on Arbor until after the event; any sponsorship, large or small would be appreciated!
Police Visit
PC Aimee Jenkins and PSCO Laura Maplesden came into school this week as part of the Wiltshire Police neighbourhood policing week of action, to give pupils and students a chance to ask any questions, raise any concerns or just have a conversation with their local officers. They also provided their bike marking service, and several pupils took the opportunity to have a code put on their bike and added to a database, to make it easier to trace should the bike be stolen and dumped.
Wiltshire Police have also asked us to share this letter to raise awareness of the risks of exploitation and advice for parents and carers.
