Hardenhuish Headlines

Dear Parents and Carers

It has been Parliament Week this week and we have welcomed several visitors including the Mayor of Chippenham, Cllr Conor Melvin who is one of our Alumni. There have also been numerous activities for our young people to get involved with to explore how parliament works. Thank you to Mrs Auld and School Parliament for all of their hard work in making this happen.

Year 11 Awards last night was an absolute joy, and it was so positive to see so many young people recognised for their efforts and achievements, supporting each other and being lauded as the most polite year group by Mrs Semichon who was making the awards on behalf of the Governors. Thank you to all of you who attended for making it such a lovely celebration of all that the Year 11 of 2024 have achieved.

The Mental Health PIAG on Wednesday evening was also very well attended and I would like to take the opportunity to thank all those in school involved in looking after the wellbeing of our young people.

Have a good weekend and a reminder that we have a TD Day next Friday, so no pupils are in school.

Focus on …. Careers

This week was UK Parliament Week, and students have been taking part in activities and events to discover more about Parliament, democracy, and politics.

In tutor time, students created petitions and soundbites, debated trending topics, took part in The Great UK Parliament Week Quiz, and attended an assembly about becoming a changemaker presented by some of our wonderful student leaders.

Throughout the week, students attended events including a student leadership celebration with Cllr Conor Melvin the Mayor of Chippenham, a UK Parliament Webinar, a politically themed Board Game Club, and an MUN debate on climate sustainability where they voted in favour of a universal approach to climate action.

It was a fun and informative week for all!

A-Level Product Design Students Build Scaled Up Lego Figures

Over a 10-week intensive project, our talented A-level Product Design students took their creativity to the next level, crafting 5x scale Lego characters from timber and polymer materials. This ambitious skills-based project challenged students to integrate design theory with practical application, using a wide range of workshop equipment and tools.

Starting with templates and scaled sketches, the students translated their designs into reality through techniques like wood shaping and turning, 3D printing, and precise assembly. Each component was painstakingly crafted to emulate the iconic Lego figure’s design, from its distinctive interlocking head to the articulated arms and legs with the addition of a personal touch of creativity.

Throughout the process, students honed essential skills such as CAD modelling and woodworking, learning how to combine traditional craftsmanship with modern technology. Safety and sustainability were emphasised, with students exploring eco-friendly material sourcing and efficient production methods.

Keep an eye out for our next big design challenge as our students continue to push the boundaries of innovation and creativity!

Corsham School Admission Arrangements Consultation Process: September 2026

Dear Parents, Carers, Guardians and School Community,

I am writing to inform you that The Corsham School is consulting on a proposal to reduce its Pupil Admission Number (PAN) for the academic year beginning in 2026. This would result in decreasing the number of students admitted to Year 7 each year.

The proposed change aims to ensure we continue to provide the highest quality education, maintain appropriate class sizes, supporting both academic achievement and individual attention for our students. The decision to review the PAN is a response to a variety of factors, including changing future pupil number demographics and available resources.

We highly value your input in this process, and we invite you to participate in the consultation. Your feedback is essential in helping us make informed decisions that will benefit our school community. Please visit our website or email the school office for more details on how to submit your views by email via reception@corsham.wilts.sch.uk

The consultation period starts today (18th November) will remain open until Monday 30th December.

Thank you for your continued support and engagement in our school community.

Kind regards
