Dear Parents and Carers
It has been wonderful to see the young people settle into term this week and be so positive about their learning. I have also delivered my beginning of term assembly to most year groups, reminding them of what it means to be Hardenhuish and to clarify our expectations. The young people always respond well to this and it ensures a consistent start to the year.
The Year 13 Awards Ceremony last night was a joyous evening, celebrating the success of the young people both in their A Levels in the summer but also more holistically in their time at Hardenhuish. I wish them all well as they move on to their new adventures and thank them and their families for everything they have brought to our school during their time with us.
I am looking forward to our Hardenhuish50 celebrations next week with our 1975 day on Friday and our open morning on Saturday. We have this week launched our fundraising campaign to replace our school flag, install a lovely stag weather vane and make sure that our celebrations leave a legacy for the future. Any donations are gratefully received!

Have a restful weekend.

Focus on …Behaviour
At Hardenhuish School we know that good behaviour is essential if the school is to look after the wellbeing of the school community and to improve the attainment of all pupils. We know that learning happens best if teachers are able to teach in a calm atmosphere, free from disruption.
This year we have introduced our ‘Non-Negotiables’, which make clear the expectations that help to make our school a safe, respectful and successful place to learn. There is nothing new and they aren’t designed to catch anyone out, but they are intended to make sure that everyone can learn without distraction and feel proud to be part of our community.

To help support pupils to meet these non-negotiables, one of our focuses this year is on Routines, as by making sure that we have the right routines and structures in place, we are able to support our staff and pupils to learn and work in a positive environment – and ensure that these non-negotiables are applied consistently across the school.
We always appreciate your help with promoting positive behaviour in school, and parents and carers can support their young people to meet the non-negotiables by encouraging them to be punctual, take responsibility for their behaviour (including helping to make sure that uniform is correct and that pupils do not use their phones during the school day), be prepared, respectful and be engaged learners. By working together, we can ensure that every pupil is supported to thrive in a calm, respectful and purposeful learning environment.
