Hardenhuish Headlines

Dear Parents and Carers

Thank you for your support with our Lockdown Practice on Tuesday. The young people took this seriously as we would expect and it was a good opportunity for us to look at how this would work if we were ever put in this challenging situation. We will be gathering feedback from the staff and young people and will be in touch with next steps.

It has been great to have the “I can, I am” bus in school this week. The Year 8 are talking very positively about their experience and how this has helped them to reflect on their recent exams.

I have been contacted by a local gym and been asked to pass on that they require all members to be 16 or over for safeguarding and health & safety reasons. Some young people have been signing up and using false credentials, parent’s details or asking for PINs from older members; all of which are against gym rules. Please can I ask for your support in helping these facilities to be compliant and also ensuring that young people are not putting themselves or you at risk by not working within these requirements.

Focus on…. Medical Room

General Information

If your child has been diagnosed with a new health condition or their existing medical situation has changed (including medication changes), it is essential to notify the school as soon as possible. This ensures that the school has current and accurate medical information for each pupil.

Non-Emergency Medical Room Visits

For non-emergency situations such as headaches, stomach aches, or toothaches, pupils should visit the medical room during break and lunch times only.  Dehydration is often the main driver for these visits, and your child will be encouraged to have a drink and some food and return to lesson where appropriate.  Please ensure your young person comes to school with a full water bottle each day. This can be topped up at several locations around school during break and lunch times.

Emergency Medical Room Visits

If a pupil is so unwell that they cannot continue their class, they will need permission from their teacher to visit the Medical Room. The pupil’s conduct card will be signed, and they will be evaluated and treated accordingly. If the pupil needs to go home, a staff member will contact the relevant parent/carer to arrange transportation. Pupils must not contact parents/carers using their mobile phones prior to seeing the Medical Officer as this violates the school’s mobile phone policy.

Medication Guidelines

Pupils are not permitted to carry required medication in their bags or self-administer medication, with the exception of asthma inhalers.

Sanitary Wear

As part of the “End Period Poverty” campaign, all female pupils in school can now access sanitary products for free from the Medical Room and Year Offices.

Sickness Policy

Please note that if a pupil has suffered from diarrhoea or vomiting, they must not return to school until 48 hours after their last episode.

If you have any questions about any of the policies outlined here, please do not hesitate to contact the school

Baroness Lucy Neville-Rolfe Visit

Last Friday, we were visited by Baroness Neville-Rolfe a member of the House of Lords, who joined our Politics and Economics students for a lecture and then met student leaders from around the school.

Baroness Neville-Rolfe delivered an inspirational talk that gave a first-hand insight into her journey to the House of Lords including her former education and corporate positions, the role of a member of the House of Lords, the day-to-day innerworkings of the House, as well as the worlds of business, economics, and politics. This was followed by a lively Q&A session where Politics and Economics students took the opportunity to ask some really thought-provoking questions. She then met and spoke individually with many of our student leaders to discover more about their roles as well as their views on a range of topical issues. The visit was a brilliantly enriching experience for all.

We are delighted to share that Hardenhuish School will be hosting our annual Careers Fair during lunchtime (12.35pm – 1.15pm) on Wednesday 4th March. This event plays a key role in helping our students explore a wide range of pathways and gain insight into the world of work.

We are fortunate to have a wonderfully diverse parent community, and we would love to involve you. If you would be willing to come in and talk to students about your profession, career journey, or company, we would be extremely grateful. Your experience could make a real difference in helping our young people make informed decisions about their futures.

If you are interested or would like more information, please contact me via e-mail – ngs@hardenhuish.wilts.sch.uk.

Thank you in advance for your support and for helping us inspire the next generation.

Health and Social Care News

Year 11 Health and Social Care students enjoyed taking part in a workshop facilitated by Will Lawton, who is one of the Music Therapists who works for The Rhythm Practice.  During the workshop students learnt about the practice of Music Therapy and the physical, intellectual, emotional and social benefits of this.  As well as helping to further inform their knowledge of the health and social care sector, this gave them the opportunity to learn more about expressive therapies for their final coursework task.  Thank you, Will, for your time, the students loved it.

Year 10 Health and Social Care students enjoyed a visit from Breanna and Carina, Youth Workers for The Rise Trust  this week, who talked about their work and how they embed person centered values into their practice on a daily basis.  They also shared what led them into the profession of Youth Work.  Thank you so much for your time.  This was so beneficial for the students to enable them to learn more about how theory links to practice and the Health and Social Care sector as a whole.

Free Drum Lessons

There are currently spaces for new students to start having Drum kit lessons, these are during the school day on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

If your child would like a free trial, please contact Joe de Berker  contact@instinctsounds.co.uk
