Last week, Hardenhuish School was presented with a guitar donated by the Chippenham-based project that also raised money for the new memorial to Eddie Cochran.
Eddie Cochran died in a car accident on Rowden Hill in Chippenham in 1960 when he was only 21. He was a pioneer of Rock ‘n’ Roll music and his music has been a huge influence on rock music. In his short life he created hits like Summertime Blues and C’mon Everybody.
The project, funded by fans and local businesses such as DeMarchi Engineering, Prangle and Carey and Sterling Services, also donated guitars to various schools, one of which was Hardenhuish.
Mark Collins of DeMarchi Engineering and a former Hardenhuish pupil visited the school last Tuesday to present the guitar to pupils.
Following the presentation, Miss Debbie Workman, Curriculum Leader of Music at Hardenhuish said, “It is a beautiful instrument and, judging from the reaction of those present, I am sure it will be in high demand from our guitarists and will certainly inspire them”.
