I am writing to inform you that, following the government’s recent advice regarding people self-isolating and social distancing to delay the spread of the Coronavirus, we have been left with significant staff shortages. As a result, with the health and safety of all staff, students and pupils in mind, we have made the decision that Hardenhuish will be closed from the end of school on Tuesday 17th March. The school will remain closed until further notice. Whilst we are closed, all school related trips and evening activities have also been cancelled.
I can assure you that this decision has not been made lightly and we have balanced the needs of our young people with those of our staff and have come to the conclusion that closing the school and allowing staff to set meaningful work for pupils and students to do at home through our online platforms is the best way of providing a quality, stable and sustainable provision for our young people in what are unprecedented circumstances.
Pupils and students will be set work using our Show My Homework online platform. All teachers are expected to set their classes work to do through this platform proportionate to their lesson time. Departments have already begun planning work for this possibility. Pupils can log in to their Show My Homework accounts using their Office 365 login details. Parents have a unique PIN to be able to access and monitor their children’s work set (more instructions on this can be found on the school website here – and we have set up an email address firstname.lastname@example.org if pupils, students or parents have any questions or difficulties logging in).
Pupils and students can access additional tasks and revision materials through various online platforms, including Seneca, GCSE Pod, SAM Learning, My Maths etc. More information about these platforms, including log in details can be found on the school’s website here.
Pupils, students and staff are expected to monitor their school email accounts remotely through the Office 365 website and can ask any questions of their teachers through this and send completed work, if required.
We recognise that online access may be limited in some households so we have also included a list of other activities that pupils should complete if they cannot access a computer.
Thank you for supporting us through what will continue to be a challenging and changing situation in the coming days and weeks. I will send you regular updates through School Comms to keep you informed of any new information. In the meantime, should you have any further queries, you can contact us using the email@example.com email address and we will do our best to answer them.
