On Sunday 9 September, a team of 13 staff, parents and friends of Hardenhuish School ran the Chippenham Half Marathon to raise money to fund a new outdoor eating area for pupils to enjoy at break and lunchtimes.
The team included a mixture of seasoned runners and half marathon debutants in the team, but everyone managed to finish the gruelling 13.2-mile course around the streets of Chippenham and the surrounding villages. Deputy Headteacher, Dr Robin Bassford, was the first in the team to cross the line with a time of 1 hour 30 minutes but perhaps most impressive was Mrs Kate Leafe who ran in full ‘Hardy the Hardenhuish Stag’ costume in an incredible 1 hour 43 minutes.
So far, their efforts have raised over £900 towards the £2,000 target and the school would like to thank all those who ran, as well as all those who have sponsored so far.
As Mrs Leafe, one of the school’s Science teachers, explained, “We were delighted to take part and to raise money for such a good cause. It means that the pupils will have somewhere to enjoy their lunch outdoors!”
