Welcome to 2017/18!
to all of our Year 11 and Year 13 of 2017 for their fantastic GCSE and A Level results.
I look forward to celebrating your successes with you at the Governor Awards Evenings later this term.
I hope that you have had an enjoyable summer and the term has started as positively for you as it has for me.
It has been lovely to welcome the new Year 7 and new Year 12 to Hardenhuish this week as well as welcoming back pupils across the school.
Our site has seen many positive changes over the summer:
- we have new kitchens in both the Octagon and Hardenhuish Hall ensuring that Manor Catering can now provide a wide range of fantastic food in both kitchens;
- several toilets across the site have also been refurbished;
- Art has now moved into C (Creative) Centre (previously T Centre) and the new 6th Form study area in A Centre (previously C Centre) is taking shape and filling up with 6th Formers making the most of their independent learning time;
- we have launched Show My Homework – thank you for your patience while we iron out a few initial teething problems;
- all of this alongside our programme of normal summer maintenance.
I am very grateful to Mrs Stuart and the Site Team who have managed these works to make our school an even better place to be.
I would like to take the new year as an opportunity for a reminder regarding dropping off and picking up pupils. On the site, this should be done in the Drop-Off Area and only pupils with specific permission should be dropped off or picked up at The House. Thank you for your help in preventing congestion on the drive to enable the access of emergency vehicles should this become necessary.
I am looking forward to supporting Hardy and Team Hardenhuish at the Chippenham Half Marathon on Sunday – please see below for further details of their fundraising campaign.

Health and First Aid Officer
Following the departure of our previous Matron, we are pleased to announce that Mrs Gemma Sampson has joined Hardenhuish School as the new Health and First Aid Officer. Mrs Sampson will be based in the Medical Room on the ground floor of the main house. If Mrs Sampson has not already made contact with you and you wish to discuss your child’s medical needs please contact her via the School telephone number.
Storage of musical instruments for instrumental lessons
A reminder to pupils and their parents that musical instruments can be left – at their own risk – in the instrumental cupboard in the Music Department during the School day. However, we suggest that pupils take their instruments home after their lessons and ensure no instruments are left in the cupboard over weekends or holiday periods.
Badminton at the Aerodrome
Aero Badminton Club is running family badminton sessions at the Chippenham Sports Club Airdome SN15 1NH, beginning on Saturday 16th September from 10.00 am to 12.00 noon on an ongoing basis.
All necessary equipment and coaching will be available if needed.
These sessions are designed for families to enjoy badminton, for children to engage in meaningful sport and for parents and grandparents just to enjoy (or maybe find a sport for themselves as well).
Sessions cost £3.00 per head on the day.
Friends of Hardenhuish and Chippenham Half Marathon
This year the Friends of Hardenhuish School have put together a team made up of parents, governors, staff and others, supported by ‘Hardy the Stag’, to run the Chippenham Half Marathon on Sunday 10 September.
There are a team of 10 runners, who are…
Geoff Wells (Chair of Governors), Colin Smith (Chair of Friends), Scott Weekes (Governor),
Mr Bruton, Mr Cobb, Mr Hulm, Mr Jenkins and Mrs Leafe (Staff) and supporters of the school, Jane Hulm and Nathan Lumber. They have all agreed to run to try to raise a target of £1000 to put towards the cost of hiring the Chippenham Sports Club Air-Dome to give us an excellent additional indoor space for PE lessons during the winter months.
Please show your support for the team by sponsoring them through https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/fohs. All sponsorship, however large or small, is gratefully received and will make a positive difference to your children’s school experience.
We would like to thank Sporting Gifts of Bumpers Farm Enterprise Centre for their kind support of the team.
If you are around Chippenham on Sunday 10 September, please come along to cheer on the team.
