Hardenhuish Headlines

Dear Parents

Thank you to everyone who support the quiz last Friday to begin our fundraising for the Gym Changing Room refurbishment. We raised over £500 and it sounds as though great fun was had by all! A massive thank you to Mr Woollin and Mrs Humphries who were the amazing quiz hosts and our Fundraising Team for all of their hard work in making the event such a success. We will be publicising our next events after the Easter break.

Charity Week has been fantastic this week with a range of activities (including cookies, Splat the Teacher and our annual Krispy Kreme sale with 1200 donuts being sold!) taking place and indications of a really substantial sum raised for Dorothy House and Teenage Cancer Trust. Thank you to Mrs Auld and the School Parliament for organising all of the events and thank you for encouraging your young people to get involved and for your support of our school charities.

A reminder that Headlines will be on Thursday next week as we break up for the Easter weekend at 3pm on Thursday.

Focus on…..RSE

Relationships, Sex Education (RSE), and Health Education are taught at Hardenhuish in line with the government statuary guidance that became a legal requirement in September 2020. This demonstrates the government’s commitment to providing a comprehensive and age-appropriate curriculum that addresses the evolving needs of young people. The guidance is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to develop healthy relationships and make informed decisions. RSE at Hardenhuish covers topics such as consent, healthy and unhealthy relationships, online safety, understanding diversity and provides an insight into drug and alcohol misuse. Ensuring that students receive accurate and up-to-date information about relationships and sex is imperative. The aim is to promote a positive and respectful culture, empower students to make responsible choices, and contribute to their overall personal development. By integrating RSE into the curriculum, we seek to prepare our young people for the challenges they may encounter in their lives and foster a culture of understanding, empathy, and inclusivity.

Charity Week

Thank you to everyone for their amazing support of Charity Week. It has been a fun-filled week of fundraising with lots of fun activities to raise money for Dorothy House and Teenage Cancer Trust our school charities. We will let you know the final total raised shortly. We hope you enjoyed the week!

Dropping off and picking up your child from school

When dropping off or collecting your child at the end of the school day, please could we ask that the following are adhered to:

  • Unless agreed otherwise by the school, all pupils should be dropped off/collected at the drop off zone.
  • In order to keep our school community safe during very busy times of the day, please can we ask that you do not drive through the school site at the beginning or end of the day.
  • Please do not collect or drop off in the passing bays, as this could cause  congestion and prevent cars from passing.
  • Do not park by/on any of the crossings so that pupils using the crossings can be clearly seen.
  • Please be respectful of the restricted speed limit whilst driving onsite.

Resource Centre News

A huge thank you to everyone who supported our recent Scholastic Book Fair – we took £1050.41, further proof that reading for pleasure is well established here at Hardenhuish across all age groups. This is the 7th time in the past decade that we have broken the £1000 mark! We hope you all enjoy your new purchases, from the latest fiction to some quirky stationery, and please do keep a look out for plenty of new titles on our library shelves straight after Easter.

The literary events continue as we head through towards the summer – our Literature Festival will take place in June and our Year 8 and 9 Carnegie group are starting their shadowing scheme next week. Look out for updates about these events in future editions of Headlines.

Music Events

The Spring Concert was fantastic on Thursday 14 March and all the performers rose to the occasion.  Flute Group, String Group, Clarinet and Saxophone Group and the Jazz Band performed the pieces they have been working on since Christmas and the Year 9 band gave their debut performance.   It was also an opportunity for some of the GCSE and A level Music students to showcase their talents and perform some of the pieces they have prepared for the performance element of their courses.  The standard and variety on display was outstanding and we were very proud of everyone.  Many people spoke to us at the end of the concert and passed on how much they had enjoyed the evening and the high quality they had seen and heard.

Our A Level students were back again on Monday 18th March to give their recital evening.  As part of the A level course the students prepare a 10 minute programme of music.  Although a nerve wracking experience the students impressed their audience with their performances.  It was an evening of real variety and high standard performances ranging from Stevie Wonder to Debussy, Whiplash to Ethan Hibbs.  The students will now record their programme next week in their performance exams.  Good luck to you all, you will be amazing.
