Hardenhuish Headlines

Dear Parents

The Year 8 have managed the beginning of their exams with maturity this week and we are very proud of how well they have been applying themselves to the process.

The Year 9 GCSE Options process has been launched this week and the PPCE on Thursday was hopefully helpful in supporting the decision-making process. Year 9 Options Evening next Thursday will provide further information and guidance to support our young people in making the right decisions for the next couple of years of their school careers.

It was lovely to see our Year 11 Awards evening mentioned in the Chippenham Twinning Association Newsletter with a glowing report both about the event and our prize winners for French and Spanish.

Our field is being used for the County Cross Country Championships tomorrow. We wish all of our competitors good luck and thank our staff who are supporting the event.

It has been a positive first full week back. Please thank your young people for their contribution to this. Have a restful weekend.

Focus on Assemblies

As part of our commitment to provide a holistic curriculum that extends beyond academic progress, we aim to ensure that all pupils and students are offered as many opportunities for personal development as possible. Therefore, the assembly programme is written on a termly basis to enhance the broader development of the school community.

Half of the assemblies each term are delivered by the Learning Manager team and have year group specific themes; for example, focusing on options choices in Year 9 or next steps for Year 11 post-16. The other half are delivered by the Leadership Team and focus on general themes or whole school priorities, for example, character strengths, British values and equality and diversity. Pupils and students are also encouraged to take part through school parliament or the student leadership team to promote events like Charity Week or Hello Yellow Day. In addition, we also have outside speakers/agencies that deliver assemblies, for example, the PCSO team or local Air Cadets Squadron.

Below is a flavour of some of the themes that will be covered over the next two terms.

Year 11 Health and Social Care

Year 11 Health and Social Care pupils are currently studying a range of therapies for their final coursework unit.   To help inform their studies, on Thursday the pupils benefitted from a visit from a Reflexologist, Tracey Andresen.   She talked to the group about her work and the wealth of benefits it brings for her clients and  they were able to try out some simple stress management techniques on their hands.

Thank you for your time Tracey and we look forward to welcoming you again!

Photography Equipment Donation Request

For the past 13 years Photography has run A level here at Hardenhuish School and in those 13 years our equipment has been very well used.

If you have any photography equipment at home that you would like to donate to the department, our students (and us!) would very much appreciate it.

We are a digital course, so anything such as: backdrops, tripods, lighting, lenses, filters or anything else you think would be suitable would be fantastic.

Many thanks
Becki Portlock

Football Boot Sale/Exchange

Please accept our apologies but we have had to postpone the planned football Boot Sale/Exchange to Tuesday 23 January at 3.15-4pm outside the PE department. There are a limited number of boots available and it will be on a first come first served basis, so we cannot guarantee that we will have the right size available for your child. Prices are £5.00 to buy or £1 and a pair of good clean boots to exchange.

We are still accepting donations for the Football boot sale/exchange so if you have any that your child has outgrown please consider donating them to Hardenhuish School either directly to the PE department or to reception.

Badminton

Year 8 pupil Imogen Drew had a good start to the new year, winning all of her games and receiving a gold medal in the girls’ singles at the U15 Starts Badminton England Tournament. Well done Imogen!
