Hardenhuish Headlines

Dear Parents

Today is #TECHOGNITION and I would like to take this opportunity to thank our technicians who work around the site to help and support our young people to take advantage of the many practical opportunities that we can give them. They are knowledgeable and dedicated experts and we are grateful for their support.

Thank you for your support with our opening on Wednesday despite the very challenging conditions. We were conscious of the need not to miss learning if possible and are grateful to our wonderful young people who (on the whole!) behaved well and adapted to the difficult outdoor conditions well.

I hope that Year 8 Parents have found the PIAG to launch the Year 9 Options process useful this week and that Year 13 Parents found the PSCE useful to guide their young people for the final few weeks of their time at Hardenhuish. If you have any further questions please do contact the year offices.

I am looking forward to the Spring Concert on Monday which is always a lovely opportunity to celebrate the wonderful  musical talents of our young people. I am also looking forward to Oliver Twist the week after. Please do buy your tickets as they sell out nearly as fast as Eurovision!

Please can I ask you to be mindful when using the drop-off area at the beginning and end of the school day. Please park considerately to enable as many people as possible to be able to safely collect or drop off their young people.

Have a good weekend.

Lisa Percy

Interviewing the Artist

Last Friday three of our sixth form students returned to Roche Court after their visit back in October to finally meet and interview internationally renowned sculptor Alison Wilding (Alison Wilding | Artist | Royal Academy of Arts).

Students had spent weeks prepping interview questions, researching Wilding’s life and work and discussing materials and concepts of the artist’s work.

Students were excited but nervous prior to meeting the artist, we had a quick recap looking at the work of Wilding’s exhibited at Roche Court before heading to meet her.

Both St Mary’s School and our students at Hardenhuish School asked some superb questions, and were professional with their manner, even the sound crew were impressed and suggested a ‘career in journalism!’

We thank Bella and Zac from Roche Court, St Mary’s School for the collaboration and planning meetings held at their school, and the Arts Society for their ongoing support and donation towards our costs.

Year 11 Health and Social Care students enjoyed a second visit from Kathryn Clements, Community Education Co-ordinator, from The British Red Cross.  She talked about some of the first aid incidents she had responded to and how to treat burns and scolds and assisted them with their practical assessments.

Last week we heard that we have been successful in a bid for a grant from the Chippenham Borough Lands Charity to enhance our Mental Health provision. The grant will be used to help to fund our counselling service, to ensure that as many children as possible are able to access this important provision. We are very grateful to CBLC for their continued support.

Chippenham Titans

FC Chippenham Youth U16 Titans football team were successful in winning their league this year and as such are promoted to the next league, following a 3-0 win over Trowbridge.  The team consists of a good mix of both Hardenhuish students.

Congratulations Titans on this fantastic achievement
