Dear Parents

Term is now well under way and we are doing our best to manage the very changeable weather conditions. Please ensure that your young person is suitably prepared for whatever the weather sends in our direction! Unfortunately the Area Athletics due to take place on the field tomorrow has had to be cancelled due to the condition of the field after all the rain this week but has been rearranged for next weekend – fingers crossed.

The Year 8 exams have started well with the young people managing these with a positive attitude and maturity. Please congratulate them for this positive start and wish them luck for next week.

The Year 9 PPCE took place last night in preparation for their GCSE Options process which starts next week. Young people have been given their booklets today and I look forward to the GCSE Options Evening next Thursday and talking to the Year 9s over the coming weeks about their choices.

Congratulations to the U15 Football Team who have made it through to the last 16 in the English Schools FA cup. The report below makes exciting reading – I wish the team luck as they progress into the next round.

Have a good weekend.

NEWS ITEMS

English Schools FA Cup

The U15 girls football team travelled all the way to The Cleeve School in Cheltenham last week as one of the last 32 teams in the English Schools FA Cup.

Despite taking a wrong turn on the way, we eventually turned up and the girls quickly got warmed up and were ready to go. The girls went 1-0 down in the first 10 minutes but this didn’t phase them. The girls played well as a team with a close knit defence involving Erin, Ottilie and Caitlin. We had a couple of shots which hit the post and one saved by the keeper, we should have been about 4 up! Fran then got the ball, took it down the pitch and passed to Emily who managed to find the back of the net, equalling the score to 1-1. No more than 5 minutes later, Emily scored again to take us in the lead just before half time making it 2-1 at the break.  We restarted play after half time and the opposition quickly scored another making it 2-2.

We had many chances but weren’t able to find the back of the net and were now trailing 4-2. Lily had a great game in goal and managed to keep many goals out of the net; she was very impressive. Emily managed to get her hattrick and took the score to 4-3. With 4 minutes to go, one of the opposition players went down injured. Both our team and the referee were conscious that it was getting dark; we could potentially be running out of time and there needed to be a winner by the end of the game. The player got up and was helped to the side and play resumed. We had an outstanding final 4 minutes and Claire scored two in the crunching minutes to win the game 5-4. This puts us through to the final 16 of the English schools FA cup.

Well done to everyone involved and fingers crossed for the next round!
