Hardenhuish Headlines

Hardenhuish Headlines

Dear Parents

Welcome back to Term 6! I can’t quite believe that we are here already; this year certainly seems to be flying by.

Please see below some amazing Equestrian team success from Hickstead at the beginning of the holidays. A fantastic achievement to come second  and fifth in such a significant national competition.

It was heart-warming to receive the following information from the Duke Of Edinburgh team this week: Participants from Hardenhuish School dedicated 949 hours to volunteering between April 2021 and March 2022, with a social value of £4384.38. A fantastic contribution to our community – thank you and well done to all young people involved and to parents that have been involved in supporting this.

Thank you to those of you who recently contributed to our Kirkland Rowell parent survey. This enables us to benchmark your views against those of parents from other schools and also helps us to review our priorities when working with you to ensure the best possible provision for our young people. Please see HERE our responses to the key areas identified.

Linking to the points raised about communication, I thought it would be useful to provide an overview of some key dates this term:

Tuesday 19 July end of Term 6 3pm

Please can I also ask that as we approach the end of the school year, if you have any uniform which is in good condition but no longer suitable for your young person you bring this in to reception for us to redistribute along with other pre-loved uniform. This is beneficial both from a sustainability perspective but also to ensure the best value from uniform that still has some life in it.

Have a good weekend.

Bath Abbey and the Al Muzaffar Bath Mosque Visit

On Thursday 9 June, 25 Year 10 GCSE Religious Studies pupils visited Bath Abbey and the Al Muzaffar Bath Mosque. At the Abbey they had a guided tour and spent time admiring the beautiful stained glass windows. Our school even got a warm welcome in the Curate’s prayer which felt really special. After a quick lunch at the Abbey and time to reflect, pupils walked to the Mosque where they again had a tour and a fantastic Q&A session with the Imam – learning lots about Bath’s Islamic population and about Muslim beliefs and practices.

NSEA (National Schools Equestrian Association) Hickstead Championship 2022 Finals

The finals of the NSEA Championships arrived and Hardenhuish had two teams competing for Wiltshire. With over fifty teams and in some classes over two hundred and fifty competitors from all over the UK including Northern Ireland the stage was set. The flags were flying and tannoys blaring, the crowd was ready. Everyone competing had previously been successful in area and county events to make it to the finals.

The first team to go were the juniors in the 75cm Arena Eventing, none had ever competed in an event of this magnitude and all rode incredibly well. A mix of both show jumps and cross country, this competition requires the competitors to go clear and ride to an optimum time. This team of four was led by Faith Loveridge, followed by Mia Fowler, then Izzy Armstrong with Brooke Robinson last. They did not get placed but all learned valuable lessons in competing at top level for their school and we are sure this will put them in good stead for the future.

The first class for the senior team was the 85cm Arena Eventing,  with nearly fifty schools and two hundred and thirty competitors. Early next morning the first to go was Amelia Niker with a speedy round followed by Darcy Selman with a great clear. Faith showed great control under pressure with a clear and Louisa Niker with Smartie who wasn’t on his usual form, unfortunately had a pole down. However, with the good three clears the team were lying in third position. The class continued for the remainder of the day and the morning of the next and after everyone had competed the team was in fifth position with Amelia in 15th, Faith 32nd and Darcy 77th as individuals.

The second class for the senior team was the 85cm Show Jumping. Representing not only Hardenhuish but Wiltshire the girls went out to try and achieve four fast clears. After the first round with two clears and a pole, the girls were on four faults which put them in 7th position. The second round was the “Jump off” as fast as you can go and hopefully clear. With all of them cool under pressure and three speedy clears and one pole this moved the team up the rankings but with teams still to go it was unsure where they would end up. One by one the remaining teams had stops and faults and this gave the girls a well-deserved second place.

All in all, an amazingly successful weekend with the seniors competing incredibly well and the juniors showing lots of promise for the future. If you are interested in becoming part of the Equestrian Team please contact Mrs Bush for details.
