I hope that you have had a good week.
I wanted to pass on a conversation that I had yesterday with a Wiltshire Air Ambulance Pilot called Simon. As your young people may have reported back to you the Air Ambulance had cause to land on our field last Friday in response to a local incident. Whilst he was waiting, Simon spoke to some of our 6th Formers and had phoned to tell me that they were an absolute delight and that we should be very proud of our amazing young people. I thanked him for his feedback and he followed up by asking me to congratulate them, their teachers and the wider community for them being so lovely!
This leads nicely on to say how proud I am of our Year 13 who leave us today. They have certainly had a challenging and turbulent few years but have taken it all in their stride and handled it with complete maturity and good humour. They have contributed much to our school over the 7 or 2 years that they have been with us and it has been an absolute joy to work with them. On behalf of our whole community I wish them well as they continue with their exams and begin their next adventures.
The first week of A Level and GCSE Exams have gone really well this week and it has been wonderful to see Year 11 and 13 revising so well between their exams and taking advantage of the support on offer by them being in school for the final few days before the May break.
As part of our commitment on a zero-tolerance approach to sexual harassment and sexual violence, all pupils in all year groups will have an assembly in Term 5 to reiterate the important message, raise awareness and remind pupils/students how to report any concerns they may have. The pupils/students will also be given the opportunity to discuss further during tutor time and to ask questions in a small, safe environment with their tutors. This forms part of our statutory duty, outlined in Keeping Children Safe in Education 2021, to safeguard and promote the welfare of the children, as well as our wider whole school approach to a preventative education programme. The assemblies have been delivered by Jo Glossop (Assistant Headteacher|Designated Safeguarding Lead), together with a number of pupils from across the year groups. In addition to the assembly, all pupils will be invited to take part in a contextual safety survey in Term 6, where they will have the opportunity to anonymously share information with us including how safe they feel, sexual harassment and online safety issues. This will enable us to use pupil voice to continue to improve and ensure that we are doing all we can to safeguard the school community. There will also be a parent survey for you to complete, which will be shared on the bulletin in Term 6.
Junior Maths Challenge
This term saw the annual UKMT Junior Mathematical Challenge take place. We had an outstanding 77 entries across Years 7 and 8—it is brilliant to have so many keen mathematicians put themselves forward for this challenge.
Many of our young people were scored highly in the challenge, with more than half of the entrants achieving Bronze, Silver, or Gold certificates.
George Padget, Year 7, scored in the top 1% of all entrants in the UK and has therefore been invited to the follow on round next month- huge congratulations to George for this outstanding performance.
