Hardenhuish Headlines

Dear Parents

We have welcomed over 200 sets of parents for Open Week this week and they have been so complimentary about our wonderful school, how beautiful our site is, how happy our young people and staff seem to be and how engaged they are in their learning.  A big shout out to all of our fantastic tour guides for giving up their time to show people around.

We wish Year 7 well as they head off to Liddington next week. I hope that they have a lovely time and the weather is kind!

Year 11 had a great visit to Bath University on Thursday to give them an idea of what university life is like and we welcomed trainee teachers from Bath Spa who were using our facilities for their learning.

We are very aware that the number of young people wanting to go on some of our bigger trips is currently greater than the places available. We are doing all we can to manage this, in several cases increasing the places available and appreciate your support and patience as we try to provide these opportunities for as many young people as are interested.

Have a good weekend!

FOCUS ON ……Hardenhuish Habits

At Hardenhuish School we know that good behaviour is essential if the school is to look after the wellbeing of the school community and to improve the attainment of all pupils. We know that learning happens best if teachers are able to teach in a calm atmosphere, free from disruption.

Under Article 29 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, children have the right to a safe and orderly learning environment to assist them in achieving their full, academic potential. As a school we have developed the Hardenhuish School Habits, in which good behaviour is a key part.

We always appreciate your help and support with promoting positive behaviour in school.

Hardenhuish at the Chippenham Half Marathon

Team Hardenhuish smashed the Chippenham Half Marathon – lots of great times, several PBs, everyone was still smiling at the end AND we missed the rain!

We are raising money for two charities – Cots for Tots and Teenage Cancer Trust, and our sponsorship page is still open. Funds raised will be split 50/50 between both charities, and thank you to everyone who has supported us so far.

Hardenhuish cross-country season 2023-2024 has begun.

Year 7 Cross-country competition

CONGRATULATIONS to all the runners who took part in the cross-country race on Thursday after-school. This was an opportunity for the runners to experience the full Hardenhuish course including the legendary Hardenhuish hill.

The students started in the Gym with a pre-race briefing where they were shown the map of the course, they were given tips on running technique before being taken through a warm-up by the pace runners.

The race was very fast, and everyone did incredibly well on what is known as one of the most challenging courses in the area, which is one of the reasons it is used for the Wiltshire Championships every year in January.

A fantastic start to the year 7 cross-country season. If you were unable to take part in the race and you are interested in taking part in cross-country, please see Mrs Place in the PE Office. A big thank you to all the senior students who helped set up, martial and run as pace runners.
