Happy New Year!

I hope that you had an enjoyable break. The pupils and students have returned with a very positive attitude and it has been lovely seeing them so focussed and on task as I have called in to lessons over the last week.

We welcomed our first primary visitors from Ivy Lane last Thursday and St Paul’s this week. They have reported enjoyable visits, picking out the opportunity to try different subjects such as Science and DT along with meeting the sheep as their highlights.

The Year 9 Options process is now well under way and I am looking forward to Key Stage 4 Options Evening on 25 January when pupils and parents will have the opportunity to discuss their GCSE options.

Good luck to Year 8, who start their exams next week.

Cross-country success for Megan and James Wright

Following on from the Inter Counties at Bath University on a bleak snowy Sunday in December 2017, James and Megan competed in the EA South West Inter Counties Cross Country Championships on Sunday 7 January 2018 at Aldon Hill, Yeovil.

It was an extremely bitter, cold day but fortunately it stayed dry and wasn’t too muddy, considering all the rain we had recently experienced. Being a new venue for 2018 the course was unknown, previously being held at Exeter, but the competitors soon discovered it had several hills and inclines over their 2 laps, which made it more of a challenge, to say the least. They gave it their all against tough competition, negotiating the course to the best of their ability, achieving the following fantastic results:

Megan finished 11th overall, out of 59 U15 Girls, gaining 3rd place within Wiltshire. This also helped Wiltshire to win the County Team Silver medals, which she proudly received on the day.

James finished 13th overall, out of 48 U17 Men, gaining 2nd place within Wiltshire, missing out on 1st place by just 1 second, but beating the current champion by 19 seconds.

Excellent performances yet again, a huge well done to both Megan and James, we are all incredibly proud of them.

The next round is The Nationals on 10th March at Loughborough – we wish them the best of luck.

ECB U13 Indoor Cricket Tournament 2018 by Mr Craig

Well done to the squad of Year 8 Cricketers who took part in this tournament,  at The Dome, Chippenham, on Thursday 11 January.

We won our group by winning our 3 matches as follows: John Bentley, a win by 47 runs. Ridgeway, a win by 40 runs and Lavington, a win by 34 runs.

This meant that we took on Sheldon School in our “Final” match. Sheldon batted first, and with our best bowling and fielding display of the day, they were all out for 33 runs. We then achieved our target in five overs, getting 37-2, to win the tournament, and, in the process, progress to the County Finals on Thursday 22 February 2018. Great teamwork, tremendous spirit, a delight to behold. Very proud!
