The first week of Term 2 has been a busy one!
Year 11 have settled in to their mock exams incredibly well and should be very proud of their work ethic and positive approach to their exams. It has been lovely speaking to them around the site as they reflect on how they have done and what they are already planning to do differently for the summer.
Successful Lives Day yesterday was fantastic! Year 7 Smoothie Day allowed pupils to showcase their marketing, budgeting and presentations skills and was won by 7JXB with their awesome Tropic Ocean smoothie with an environmental conscience; Year 8 used their detective skills to solve a crime in Cluedo day involving the members of the Leadership Team; Year 9 were immersed in experiences to learn about and remember those who lost their lives in World War I and Year 10 were developing their study skills to support them through their GCSE courses. Year 12 went off to visit Reading University as they begin to consider their post Sixth Form options and Year 13 spent time catching up on opportunities they missed out on as a result of covid, which I hope involved having fun and enjoying spending time together!
I would like to congratulate our superb equestrian team who won a national show jumping event over the break – they should be so proud of their amazing achievement. Please see further details below.
In light of the continuing high covid cases in Wiltshire, please could you join us in reminding your young people to continue with their testing twice a week on a Wednesday and Sunday evening and to bring face coverings to school to wear in indoor communal spaces such as corridors and our eating areas when they are not eating.
Have a good weekend.
Cadet to the Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire
Y13 student Alex Lansley has recently been appointed as the Cadet to the Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire through her participation in the RAF Air Cadets in Corsham as a Cadet Sergeant. Congratulations Alex on this fantastic achievement.
NSEA Jumping with Style Arena Eventing National champions!
Congratulations to Hardenhuish School show jumping team, Louisa Niker, Amelia Niker, Darcy Selman and Faith Loveridge who competed in the NSEA National Championships held at Keysoe In Bedfordshire, a mere four hour drive from Chippenham! (Huge thanks and Congratulations to Faith for travelling such a long way to make the team up to four for the Saturday competition).
Only the qualifying teams and individual competitors get to compete at this level, which took place in the Main Arena of this fantastic venue.
The Team had qualified for three classes in all, two Show jumping classes on Saturday and a Jumping with Style class on Sunday.
Everyone rode superbly for the Saturday classes and the team finished in the top 10 in both classes. On Sunday morning we had a later start thankfully which meant there was plenty of time to wash and tidy up the ponies and riders before we were in.
These horse & rider combinations are some of the best in the country and the course was causing quite a few problems and the competition fierce, but the team rose to the occasion and we were absolutely ecstatic and dumbfounded to come in first.
A BIG thanks goes to our Team Manager for the weekend – Mrs Niker, who collated all the entries – without her support this wouldn’t be possible.
The following weekend the Hardenhuish team qualified in the 70 and 80 Arena Eventing at Rectory Farm for the Hickstead Championships 2022! Both teams came 2nd. so, it was a tight scrape to qualify.
Congratulations to Faith Loveridge who qualified as an individual too.
The Great Hardenhuish Bake Off
Another successful ’Grate’ Hardenhuish Bake off for 2021 with over 60 entries and a real buzz in the air in C Centre.
We were all amazed by the outstanding turnout and quality of bakes from staff and students. Some ‘Egg-cellent’ techniques were displayed including whisking,
piping, melting, fondant icing and sugarwork. We were impressed with the creativity on many of the decorations and flavours.
Thank you so much to everyone who entered – we raised over £300 for Dorothy House!
Dad’s Army Recruits Head of History!
During the penultimate week of last term Mr Arkinstall, Curriculum Leader for History, took part in an exciting drama performance of Dad’s Army, which ran at the Neeld Hall. The four night run was an opportunity for audiences to re-live some classic moments from the hit BBC show. Mr Arkinstall played Walker, the spiv and was highly convincing with his wheeler-dealer performance.
Well done on a successful run and here’s to seeing more of him on stage!
