It was lovely to host a virtual welcome for future parents and young people last night in place of our planned Open Evening which has been postponed until 30 September due to Covid restrictions. I am looking forward to our current young people helping us out on this evening and during the Open Week in September to show off our wonderful school.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Governing Board for their continued support ahead of the Term 6 meeting next week. As volunteers, they are so giving of their time and support and although most of their work is behind the scenes, it is vital to our continued success and development.
Please remind young people to come prepared for the warmer weather (let’s hope it continues!) with a refillable water bottle and sun protection for the time that they are spending outside.
I can confirm that the catering offer will return to normal next week with both Hardenhuish Hall and the Octagon returning to serving food. Many thanks for your patience and understanding this week.
Have a lovely weekend.
Rugby National Sevens Academy Recruit Hardenhuish Pupil
Following a fantastic performance at the Dyson rugby 7’s finals, Lily Selman in Year 10 was scouted by Ultimate Rugby to attend trials in Essex earlier in the month. Showing her usual determination and skill at these trials she has now been accepted onto the National Sevens Academy. The National Sevens Academy was launched in 2013 and was the first of its kind in the UK. The Academy is now established as the most advanced performance academy in the UK for the Olympic sport of rugby sevens. This is such an exciting opportunity for Lily; we are really proud of her for following her dream and look forward to seeing all of the amazing things she will go on to achieve in this sport.
Art and DT Blog Post 19
We are coming to the end of term, but the creativity here in C Centre is still flowing strong! Our passionate young people have been hard at work creating a vast variety of creative outcomes.
Year 7 designers have been working on their packaging nets this week. They have been creating digital design documents using Adobe Photoshop that will be printed out and turned into 3D packaging. Their original net drawings were done by hand before being scanned into the digital software and students were rightfully very proud of their accuracy when designing these forms. You can see a collection of their original net design drawings below!
Year 9 artists worked with Cath Siswick, a local artist, in an online workshop to create these stunning acrylic paintings based on the work of Georgia O’ Keefe. They learnt about colour theory and under-painting colours to enhance depth in their work. The workshops took place during Art & DT week about a fortnight ago, but the students have been working hard to finish off their paintings since and we are so excited to see the finished articles. Take a look at some of their paintings below!
In other news, we are in the process of creating a dedicated website for our fantastic department of creativity. Stay tuned for the link to that coming very soon!
We hope that you are all keeping well and staying safe.
