Welcome back to Term 6!
It has been lovely to see our young people back in school this week and enjoying the amazing opportunities that our site allows when the weather is so good as well as working so hard in lessons.
A massive congratulations to Years 10 and 12 who have managed their mock exams with such maturity and a really good work ethic this week. On their behalf, thank you for supporting them at home and our teachers and the Year 10 and Sixth Form teams for supporting them in school.
There is no doubt that this has been a challenging year and we will be ending the year with activities days for all year groups to enable us all to finish the year with some out of the classroom learning activities! Hardenhuish Arena Eventing win, we are back!
On Friday 4 June, the Hardenhuish Riding team competed at St Mary`s NSEA Arena Eventing with style! There was strong competition due to lockdown with teams travelling from far away to qualify. In all there were 75 riders and 15 teams.
Hardenhuish team made up of Lilly Goverd, Kate Selman, Amelia & Louisa Niker. The team pulled off 3 clears with great style marks to give them the 1st place win they needed to qualify for the Championships held at Addington 22-25 October.
The previous week the team consisting of Kate and Darcy Selman and Amelia and Louisa Niker competed at the National championships at Hickstead. The team produced a commendable result finishing 7th out of 29 teams and 127 competitors. After the restrictions of lockdown it is fantastic to see our students achieving such positive results and being fine sports ambassadors for our school.

Rugby 7s Tournament Success
Hardenhuish Pupil Oliver Bell was recently selected by his head coach at Chippenham Rugby to represent the U13s at a Rugby 7s tournament which they went on to win. The tournament was hosted by the National Rugby 7s Academy, which is an achievement in itself. Following the Team’s success the Academy made contact with Oliver’s parents as his performance had caught the eye of one of their coaches as showing great potential and standout attributes for the game. They expressed their interest in giving Oliver a spot in the National Sevens Academy for 2021/22 in the SW Region which gives the opportunity to young aspiring 7s players to be involved in a highly developed academy with a speciality in Rugby 7s.
Congratulations Oliver on this fantastic achievement.
Congratulations to Year 8, Sophie Vaughan, who has been selected to play in Wiltshire U13 Girls Performance cricket squad. She received her debut cap last Sunday, travelling to Wimborne to play a double-header match against opponents Dorset, where she took her first county wicket and catch. Wiltshire came away with wins from both matches and next travel to Wembdon to play Somerset on 20th June. Quite a remarkable achievement for Sophie as she only started playing cricket 2 years ago!
Art and DT Blog Post 15
Starting off with our Year 9 Artists this week, we are excited to share their insect studies that have been in progress for several weeks now. Starting with a collage background to create a mixed media texture, the artist then used a variety of black and white materials to investigate the shapes and forms of insects. From pencil to charcoal and biro, a range of mark-making techniques have been refined to capture the three-dimensional forms of these creatures in a 2D space. Take a look at some of their outcomes below!
Year 8 designers in Systems & Control have been designing their Programmable Toys this week and there are some fantastic ideas being bounced around! Our young people have considered the size of their product, the function, and its aesthetics to come up with a range of initial design ideas inspired by some of their favourite things. From Harry Potter to Snow White, there is a vast range of concepts at work. Some of ideas are shown below so take a look and pick out which one you are most looking forward to seeing constructed!
We hope that you are all keeping well and staying safe.

School Sheep Shear
Hardenhuish School’s flock of Jacobs Sheep have had an appointment with the Shepherd for their annual shear. The flock, consisting of five ewes and six lambs were shorn in front of an audience of pupils from ‘Sheep Club’ and staff. Some of the black and white fleece will be kept here in school as a teaching resource for Textiles lessons, explaining the lifecycle of wool fleece, from the initial shearing, to creating useable yarn to make a wearable item of clothing.
