Year 8 pupils at Hardenhuish School were inspired to get creative in their poetry writing this week by performance poet and multiple slam winner, Ash Dickinson, after he held a series of workshops in the school library. The sessions, part of a war poetry unit that Year 8 have been studying in English this term, provided them with the chance to broaden their knowledge of poetic techniques whilst strengthening their understanding of the subject. On Wednesday 10 February, Hardenhuish School’s Senior Public Speaking team competed in the Rotary Regional Semi-Final at Kingdown School in Warminster.  The three students, Eloise Smith and Laura Price from Year 13 and Adam Lloyd from Year 12, were up against three other schools in this competition, the objective of which was to develop effective communication skills by offering young people experience in speaking on topical subjects in public. HARDENHUISH WELCOMES SILVER MEDALLIST IN JUDO On Tuesday 2nd February, Hardenhuish School was delighted to welcome Tom Reed, British silver medallist in judo at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, as part of the Sky Sports Living for Sport initiative. On Tuesday 2nd February, pupils from Hardenhuish had the opportunity to analyse chemicals using cutting edge techniques as part of the Royal Society of Chemistry ‘Spectroscopy in a Suitcase’ programme. Admittedly, the instruments were large enough to fill several suitcases, however, it was exciting for students to see and use techniques usually used at universities and in industrial research. Hardenhuish School’s Key Stage 3 girls’ badminton team are celebrating an overwhelming victory in the Wiltshire Badminton School Games that took place at Tidworth Leisure Centre on Tuesday 2nd February. On Thursday 28th January, over 100 Year 7 pupils proudly showcased their poetry skills at Hardenhuish School’s sixth Annual Poetry Slam. On Monday 25th January, Hardenhuish School welcomed two South African international netball players to do a coaching session with 30 pupils from Years 8, 9 and 10.
