More than 70 Hardenhuish pupils from Years 8, 9 and 10 were captivated when Gillian Holmes and her Steel Pans visited the school this week. The Peter Thompson Hall was alive with the sound of traditional calypso and more modern pieces which Gillian introduced to the pupils. Hardenhuish Sixth Form student Nick Arthur is flying high after being awarded his light aircraft pilot’s licence this week.  Seventeen year old Nick who is studying for his A’ Levels in Business Studies, Product Design and Travel & Tourism at Hardenhuish School, started taking flying lessons in November 2012 at the Cotswold Flying School at Kemble Airfield. More than 45 parents, governors and teachers who attended the Sixth Form Design & Technology Exhibition in the Technology Centre last week were full of admiration for the sheer variety of exhibits on display. The evening was the culmination of months of work by the Product Design students. The opportunity of working closely with M+W Group, a Chippenham based engineering, design and construction company, on a project entitled ‘Modules, Mobile Site Offices’ propelled a group of Hardenhuish students to victory at the South West Regional Final of the Engineering Education Scheme 2013/14. The scheme enabled the students take part in an introductory launch at Rolls Royce in Bristol and a two day residential workshop at Gloucestershire College. Top speakers receive trophy from rotary

Three Year 9 Hardenhuish pupils, recent winners of the regional Rotary Intermediate Youth Speaks public speaking competition, were presented with a trophy to celebrate their achievements last week. Stonar School near Bath hosted the competition between pupils representing both maintained and independent schools from the North Wiltshire area. Brenda Spenceley from the Rotary Club presented the trophy to the delighted Year 9 girls during their assembly.
